Compost Case Studies

Geelong Compost customer Andrew Mahoney from Leura Park

“At Leura Park we have over 40 Acres under vine and we are proud to produce award winning sparklings and wines. We have been farming sustainably for nearly 5 years now incorporating integrated pest management practices as well as using biological inputs. This is our first year composting on farm with Geelong Compost and I have been extremely impressed with the quality of the end product. We have targeted the weaker vines with the compost and I am confident we will get a great result. Composting on farm also allows us to manage our own waste and we added wood chip waste, weeds and grape marc into the compost.”

Geelong Compost customer and beef farmer Simon Caldwell

“The farm incorporates two sites, one in Wallington with the other at Marcus Hill. We have 700 acres in total mostly to pasture which carries on average 300 head of Angus cattle. We have typical Bellarine sandy soils which never seem to grow enough grass. We applied our first batch of compost in late Autumn and I did notice a flush of growth. I believe it will be a great input to our soils here and have saddled up again for more batches on both sites this season.”
